STORYTELLING CLASS

Description:
I will teach you how to take personal experiences from your life and create stories that are universal and identifiable to an audience. You'll be blown away at how engaging your personal stories can be! Whether you're a Moth Slam Champion in the making, a writer seeking to fine-tune your narrative skills, or someone who wants the confidence and ability to get in front of people and be heard -- this class will help.

In this class, you will learn the basic elements of telling a narrative story, how to take a crowd by surprise and make them care, how to be real and truthful on stage, and how to discover and communicate the real meaning behind your experience. Classes will include verbal and written exercises and various techniques and approaches to prepare yourself for a performance of your story.

What you'll get out of the class: at least one polished, six-to-eight-minute story -- which could be a Moth Story Slam winner, the beginning of a one-person show, or a personal essay -- and the fundamentals needed to develop future stories. The class concludes with a graduation performance where you will perform your personal story in front of a live, super-supportive audience.

Student Testimonials

“Adam is one very talented storyteller... that's simply a fact. However, he's a unicorn among other creative professionals in that he truly cares about making the "scene" around him that much stronger. Instead of focusing exclusively on perfecting his own craft, he puts in the time mentoring others to improve the craft of storytelling. As a student, he'll actually encourage you to "do something nice for yourself" every week & instill in you a heightened ability to understand that even the 'small things' are worth recanting. Adam's class(es), much like himself & his stories, are truly well worth your time & will always end up leaving you in a better place!”

"Adam is amazing! He's as capable as he is caring. He was encouraging while still pushing us to the next level. He's an artist, a great teacher, and a wonderful person."

"I learned a lot about the creative process through this class, and how to better prepare for public speaking engagements going forward."

"The diversity of people, stories and ideas is a truly New York experience. Adam takes you on a collective and individual journey of discovery that should not be missed. With empathy, encouragement and an honest belief in each person and their stories he helps the shyest of turtles emerge from their shell."

”Adam really helped us better understand the process of telling stories. Atmosphere was very relaxed and supportive, and was fun to meet other people from all different places/backgrounds. I’m not a very confident person in front of lots of new people, but Adam and the other participants were so nice I felt well at ease throughout.”

“Adam’s guidance on what makes a story work breaks it down into do-able steps, and after every person tries it out, he gives great feedback on the stories -- identifying the parts that really work and why.”

"Adam is simply one of the most authentic human beings I've ever met. He inspires every student he meets with his open heart and clear-eyed approach to storytelling. His classes are safe space for new artists to be vulnerable from their very first time on stage. I couldn't have asked for a better friend or mentor in the storytelling community."

"Adam Wade's classes helped me re-discover my voice. Not only is Adam a master storyteller, a dedicated teacher, and a mentor to many, but also he is one of the kindest people I've ever met. He taught me how to be a creative professional and I am in graduate school for TV writing because of his support. Thank you, Adam!”

“I absolutely loved the class. Storytelling, or public speaking in general, can be terrifying. However, if you’re lucky enough to get an instructor who’s empathetic, supportive, nonjudgmental and who deeply cares about his students, you’ll not only do well, you’ll love the class. That’s Adam, an amazing human being and an incredibly effective instructor. Yep, I absolutely loved his class, and the three subsequent classes that I also took with him.”

"I recently moved to NYC and took Adam’s storytelling class, and I was so grateful to discover this art under the guidance of someone with such a beautiful heart. Adam can move a room, and everyone he meets can feel his genuine warmth. I consider him one of my mentors and am so thankful to have met him at the start of my journey here in the city."

“Adam's way of responding to and encouraging students creates a space where it's safe to experiment with being yourself. He gave me tools to organize my creativity and showed me how to include the human details that resonate with people while remaining honest to the story I was sharing.”

"It’s hard not to think Adam is one of the greatest living storytellers today—his insight, humor, warmth and unique worldview set him apart. But it’s his profound understanding of human nature that puts him on another level altogether. There’s no one else like Adam and it’s such a gift to learn from him."

“Adam Wade is the reason I'm a storyteller. He's the reason I felt confident on stage again. His class made me realize how crucial YOU are to your story. Just be you; It's a critical part of storytelling because so often we perform thinking we have to be a certain way, but Adam gives you space to find yourself (your humor, vulnerability, ways of connecting to an audience) in his class. He's an amazing storyteller and an even better human.”

"I walked into Adam Wade's Storytelling class in Fall 2023 pretty worn out in trying to make friends and feeling like I was having a tough time getting cool things done creatively. Instantly, Adam's class was a warm and welcoming room, inspired by Adam. Adam's warmth and candor and kindness and care and creativity brings people together. Seriously, I am very grateful to Adam for helping us all be better humans through his class."
